Luxury hotels in New York City

Unlike other cities that lose their sparkle during winter months, New York is a fantastic destination to visit over Christmas and the New Year. With sites to look to, shopping to do and amazing restaurants check out, it’s only fair you’ll want a beautiful home-from-home to go back to as well: lucky, then, that luxury hotels in New York are the world’s best. Here’s our pick of the city’s top three finest places to stay:

1.       Gramercy Park

You know you’ve arrived somewhere special as soon as you take in the lobby at Gramercy Park’s huge chandelier, suspended above fantastical artwork from Julian Schnable. This luxury hotel is one of New York’s most discerning and characterful, with unique decor gracing all 185 rooms. Most magical of all is being given keys to the eponymous park outside – the city’s only private green space. You’ll feel likely you’ve been included in a club for the city’s best and brightest, something which’ll only increase when stopping for a drink in the hotel’s trendy Rose and Jade bars.

2.       The Greenwich

A recent addition to the New York luxury hotel stable, The Greenwich is fast becoming a Tribeca legend. Owned and co-designed by Robert De Niro, it’s all grown-up sophistication matched with eclectic, contemporary decor. So far, so boutique, but The Greenwich also ticks boxes for the full-on luxury hotel experience with a superb fine dining restaurant (Locanda Verde) and gorgeous spa with gym. Be sure to take a dip in the subterranean swimming pool – a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse roof hangs suspended from the ceiling in heaven it; a strangely beautiful addition to an already luxurious enclave.

3.       Chambers

Midtown’s best modern luxury tavern takes inspiration from the loft-style living synonymous with Manhattan’s cool elite. Spacious rooms come complete by industrial-style chrome kindle fixtures, edgy glass desks and unfinished concrete walls, and the deeply cool Duplex suite has a huge individual terrace perched high above the street. The hotel is big on art, with individual pieces by up-and-comers gracing every available wall – best are specially-commissioned, corridor-length murals that accompany your walk to your unoccupied space. To top it off, Chambers’ mezzanine-level dining space is more relaxed and sociable than the traditionally affectedly exact luxury hotel eatery – and it’s open from breakfast until way past midnight.
