Hi, I’m Fida Hess from Mimosa Lodge in Montagu in the Western Cape.
MONTAGU IS BEST KNOWN FOR its Muscadel, Hot Springs and Adventure Sport
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT our great NG Church in Church Street, This is one of the most historic streets in Montagu apart from Long Street.
THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the hole in the wall (underground thoroughfare) coming from Ashton to Montagu in the Cogmanskloof.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the bird sanctuary where hundreds of birds took over 2-3 trees as their homes  …

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO go hiking in the mountains.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO sip some of our neighbouring Robertson Wine Valley wines in front of an open fire.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year round, for the reason that Montagu does not have the breeze force winds Cape Town has in Summer and our winters are mild with only 20% of Cape Town’s rain, although the mornings can be on the chilly side it heats towards the afternoon.

MY FAVOURITE BEARKFAST SPOT IS Die Kloof Padstal.
FOR LUNCH I SUGGEST Templeton’s @ Four Oaks.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Templeton’s @ Four Oaks & Mimosa Lodge, try the fixed four course gourmet meal that changes on a daily basis.
MY FAVOURITE COUNTRY RESTAURANT IS Riggs in nearby Bonnievale. They have great food , great views and also overlooks a working Cheese Factory
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Preston’s Thomas Bain Pub
MONTAGU’S BEST KEPT SECRET IS Mystic Tin Brewery.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to go Mountain Biking and enjoy our array of natural outdoor entertainment.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO have a sun downer at Fraai Uitzicht in Klaas Voogds.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY Rock Climbing or Quad Biking.
MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS coming down Burger’s Pass on the R318 into Montagu  overlooking the Keisie Valley.
MY FAVOURITE GIFT SHOP IS Die Boord.

MY FAVOURITE BIRD WATCHING SPOT IS the Bird Sanctuary on the Corner of Bath and Barry Streets.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN AUGUST, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the National Youth Arts Festival.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS all three we have in Montagu. Check out the medicinal herbs at the Joubert House, The famous art of Francois Kriege at the Kriege House and the History and Floods of Montagu at the Sending Kerk.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the NG Church for its majestic presence at the crown of the head of Church Street.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS Die Stal just 5 km out of Town where kids can run around and swing or play on an old wagon cart or occasionally have a run in with the ‘werf haan’.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS wine tasting, picnic and boat cruise at Viljoensdrift.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO do a cooking course at Mimosa Lodge.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS how friendly everyone is.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS Arniston, only 120km away.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I donate all my reject linen to various institutions locally for instance the Rape Trauma Centre at the Police Station, or the newly found Orphanage at the Mag. We also support various fund raisers for Rotary as well as Lions.

OTHER NOTES: Montagu is situated in close proximity to 4 other Towns, being Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor & Robertson. Seeing one without the other is not in posse while our area offers such a variety of activities that you can easily stay for a week and muffle be entertained.

I ♥ Montagu because it has good food, good wine and real friendly people. This is all apart from the fact that we are just living in the most beautiful part of South Africa.
