So I wrote this big long boring post about the start of our trip and where we wanted to stay and the time we touched down etc. I then re-read it and nearly fell asleep. If our trip of a lifetime (so far) has turned into a way to get some good shut eye then I have serious problems – and my writing ability necessarily a doom of toil. So, instead here is a snapshot of what I want to get from this African experience and a bit of insight into answering the question that everyone keeps asking – why Africa? I hope to look back on this post the same time next year and know I got this plenteous out of it and more, I also want to be able to answer the annoying question above with more zeal and passion than I can now. If the Africa bug bites me it better leave a bloody big scar!
The physical:
-Sun-browned skin from soaking up the African rays
-Muscular legs from all the trekking I’ll be doing
-Long, unkempt hair as who cares if it isn’t perfect?
The mental:
-No stress from deadlines and angry, impatient clients as we glide through the Okavango Delta in Botswana
-Whitewashing of the brain under the starry skies of the Namib desert
-Finding the happy, carefree person I used to be whilst sitting on the sandy beaches of Mozambique
-Confidence in myself and pride in knowing that I can do it when people say I can’t.
It might sound a bit maudlin but to tell the truth even writing this has made my day better and brighter. Not all posts will be this way – I have 1 very great number questions to ask, but I think it’s important that people understand the before and the why as well as the how and the when.
Next post – it’session time to get technical!
