CNN With Mixed Feelings about South Africa’s Tourist Activities

1 Comment Posted in: Amazing Africa | Tags: south | September 11, 2009

It looks like we are not the only ones around with the African travel fever! CNN’s Jarett Bellini is traveling through South Africa right now, and he is sharing his experiences in several articles and videos published on CNN.com the past two days. So if you are considering a trip to South Africa, recently returned from one, or just can’t stop day dreaming about; you will most likely find his travel stories interesting.

That being said, the activities he writes about are the same exact ones that all other tourists in Cape Town do. But that might just make the articles more interesting, as it probably is the same activities that you will end up doing space of time traveling there. And it might be a good idea to know what you are getting yourself into before you start spending hundreds (or thousands) of Rands to sign up for them.

Wine Tasting for Amateurs and Experts

The first article, Sipping through South Africa, is about Jarett’s wine tasting in South Africa’s beautiful wine country encircling Cape Town. But even though his actual observation might have been educational, the quantifying adjective is not meant to be. As a reader you will not learn much from reading this unless the fact that white goes with fish and red goes with meat is new to you. The article is more like a fun little commentary that allows you recognize your own similar experience. And it might also give a decent picture of what South Africa’s wine tours are like.

Cage Diving with Great White Sharks

Sea sickness and shark diving is any other commodity, where Jarett shares his mixed feelings about the cage diving with great white sharks of South Africa’s coast. I have not done the shark diving myself, but I feel like hes description of the experience is pretty much right on. I am left with the impression that the great white is (not surprisingly) very intimidating up close, but that except from the adrenaline kick that lasts for a few minutes it is not really price the cost and efforts.

Other than the two articles I have mentioned, Jarett also shared a few videos from his South Africa travels, including one on shopping and one attached penguins. And he will probably keep posting more in the near future, so there is a good reason for entirely Africa Travelers to keep checking in at CNN (after you visit The Africa Travel Blog of course).

And to this place is my question to you is: Jarett did not seem to have some mixed feelings about his experiences (!?). Have you done the wine tours or shark diving? What was it like? Would you recommend it to a friend?
